QIP IRC - QAP IP Science Communication Workshop
St Anne’s College, Oxford , 25th – 26th September 2006
That two-day course was led by Wendy Sadler, Director of science made simple, and Paul Roche, who are both established science communicators. They gave an overview of what we need to consider when addressing different groups. It provided practical opportunities to improve the presenting style and see how it can be adjusted for different situations. With additional input from broadcasting professionals the participants had also the chance to practice their TV and radio interview skills and learn some tactics for dealing with the media in general. Video feedback was used to help the participants improve their skills in a supportive environment. Tim Gardam, Principal of St Anne’s College and former Director of Television and Director of Programmes at Channel 4, also contributed.
The workshop was in collaboration between QIP IRC and QAP IP. The participants were at all stages of seniority, including senior members of faculty and those who already have considerable experience of communicating to non-specialists.
